Ask whose standard is used
A grade on a listing is not self-explanatory. Ask who assigned it, which properties were evaluated, and whether the criteria are available in writing. Do not assume one supplier’s AAA is comparable to another’s or that a grade was issued by an independent laboratory.
Replace adjectives with criteria
A useful specification describes dimensions, visible condition, pattern, finish, and allowed variation. For a lot, ask what proportion can differ from the reference sample and what happens if it does. “Premium” without acceptance criteria leaves buyer and seller judging different things after delivery.
Keep identity and appearance separate

Reports and quality grades
A report identifying material does not automatically endorse price or quality. Read its stated purpose. A vendor’s grading sheet can be useful if transparent, but should be labeled as the vendor’s assessment rather than presented as independent certification.
Build a comparison sheet
Record exact item IDs, dimensions, weight, photographs, treatment statements, return terms, and delivered price. Add your aesthetic criteria. Compare these facts first, then consider the sales grade as context. Keep the records to check that the delivered item is the one agreed.
